چکیده

We are concerned with free boundary problems arising from the analysis of multidimensional transonic shock waves for Euler equations in compressible fluid dynamics. In this expository paper, we survey some recent developments and corresponding related nonlinear partial differential (PDEs) mixed type. The PDEs under our include steady potential flow, full equations, unsteady elliptic–hyperbolic problem flow past solid wedges, von Neumann reflection–diffraction, Prandtl–Meyer supersonic onto wedges. first show how these longstanding can be formulated as Then present an effective method ideas techniques to solve problems. method, ideas, should useful analyze other newly emerging PDEs.

Free boundary problems in shock reflection/diffraction and related transonic flow problems.

Shock waves are steep wavefronts that are fundamental in nature, especially in high-speed fluid flows. When a shock hits an obstacle, or a flying body meets a shock, shock reflection/diffraction phenomena occur. In this paper, we show how several long-standing shock reflection/diffraction problems can be formulated as free boundary problems, discuss some recent progress in developing mathematic...

Multidimensional Transonic Shocks and Free Boundary Problems for Nonlinear Equations of Mixed Type

We are concerned with the existence and stability of multidimensional transonic shocks for the Euler equations for steady potential compressible fluids. The Euler equations, consisting of the conservation law of mass and the Bernoulli law for the velocity, can be written as the following second-order nonlinear equation of mixed elliptic-hyperbolic type for the velocity potential φ : Ω ⊂ R → R: ...

Shock Waves in Transonic Channel Flows at Moderate Reynolds Numbers

The behavior of shock waves in transonic channel flows with varying Reynolds and Prandtl numbers is examined using analytical and numerical methods. It is shown that the location of the sonic line within the structure of a shock wave is independent of the Reynolds number and is coincident with the location of the corresponding discontinuous wave in the limit as the Reynolds number tends to infi...
